Currently, four greenhouses have been purchased for the Plainfield, New Jersey, community. The first one, donated by Hilding "Gus" Lindquist as the testbed prototype, is located at my residence. One of her neighbors is mastering the assembly.
The
second unit was purchased by the head of the Plainfield High School
Alumnae Association. I selected the Rutgers tomato for 200 plants that
he donated to the Middle School STEM program at his son's school. They
are planting an abandoned community garden.
In Mexico, collectives farm for productivity and divide the yield. Individual plots are not productive.
The remaining two
units have been purchased by the public housing Tenants Association.
Seniors have assisted dividing, packaging and distributing bulk seeds.
Currently, I have distributed seeds for collards, and 3 varieties of kale -
Red Russian, Siberian and Lacinato.
Seasons
are everything in Agriculture. One manageable route to economic and
health benefits is a large scale operation that grows, cleans and
packages frost tolerant greens.
The
Green Thumb is one of many gifts that are valuable to life, but not
valued by this society. People who excel at growing plants and caring
for animals are ideal for a range of education and employment options,
despite any other variables in their lives.
